The Assessment Walk
Arkansas requires a multi-step process for cars. Step 1: You must 'Assess' your vehicle with your County Assessor's office. This declares its value for next year's tax bill. Step 2: You must prove you've paid your personal property taxes (if you're a first-time resident, this is usually waived or handled through a specific form). Without these, the Revenue Office cannot issue tags.
The Revenue Office (Not DMV)
In Arkansas, you visit a Revenue Office (managed by the DFA) for all motor vehicle business. They are distributed in almost every county seat. Note: Arkansas has a mandatory safety inspection only for salvaged titles; most vehicles just need a title and proof of insurance.
NWA vs. The Rest
Northwest Arkansas (NWA) (Fayetteville, Bentonville, Rogers) is currently one of the most desirable places to live in the US, fueled by the corporate presence of Walmart. It feels very different—more affluent and tech-focused—compared to the more traditional, agricultural, or mountain cultures in other parts of the state.
