The Tax Waiver Waltz
Missouri requires proof of personal property tax payment to register a car. As a newcomer, you haven't paid them yet. You must physicaly go to your County Assessor's office to get a 'Statement of Non-Assessment' (or a waiver). This declares you didn't live in MO on January 1st. Without this paper, the DMV cannot help you.
The DOR (DMV)
Vehicle registration and licensing are managed by the Department of Revenue (DOR). Many DOR offices are actually privately run 'Contract Offices'. Check online reviews—some are much more efficient than others. Note: You must pay sales tax on your vehicle when you register it if you haven't already.
Life in the Ozarks
Beyond the big cities, the Lake of the Ozarks and the Branson area define Missouri recreation. With over 1,100 miles of shoreline (more than California), it's a massive hub for boating and fishing. Just be careful with 'chiggers' and ticks in the woods!
